No words or explanation needed. Except to say that I am heartbroken that I will not be seeing Bon Iver when they tour Vancouver in the Fall. Mother fuck is all I have to say. One day. One day.
A few months ago, one of my very good friends (who sadly lives across the other side of the country) sent me a link to concert that was coming up here in Vancouver. That band was The Civil Wars and the concert was last weekend. And it was awesome.
Indie, folky, southern fusion. Great chemistry. Great stories. Kept me totally entertained for the whole show. They only have one full length album thus far, so that gave them the chance to throw in a few covers. I think even MJ would approve of this:
Mumford & Sons last night. Fan-fucking-tastically amazing.
This kid was one of their opening acts. Very impressive. Particularly this song……..
His name is King Charles. Tell your friends.
I think I just peed a little.
I am going in December and am seriously so beyond excited to see this FINALLY. I have been a fan of Floyd for over 20 years (eek!) and have never seen The Wall live.
So fucking amazing.
It has been quite a while since I have done this. I am proud to say that I did make it through all the songs I have that start with the letter “A”. I told you I was doing this right? Wiping everything off of my I-pod and only putting on songs that start with the letter A? It was hard ya’ll. I must admit that I cheated a little.
I know I know… I have absolutely no self control. I had to cheat friends. But only for those bands I will be seeing in concert in the next few months. Thankfully I currently have over 10 concerts on the books, so that made it a little easier….
So here we go…. the game hasn’t changed at all. Shuffle all. Only skip if an artist is repeated:
- The National - Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks (Seeing them on Thursday)
- Kate Nash - Mansion Song (November)
- She & Him - I’m Gonna Make it Better (October)
- Beach House - Used to Be (saw them with Vampire Weekend last weekend)
- Pink Floyd - Bring the Boys Back Home (December)
- Frightened Rabbit - Fast Blood (October)
- Mumford & Sons - The Cave (October)
- Best Coast - Boyfriend (October - but it is sold out)
- The Walkman - Long Time Ahead of Us (opening for The National)
- Ray LaMontagne - Barfly (next Sunday)
- David Gray - Hospital Food (next Sunday)
- Arcade Fire - Intervention (September)
- Phoenix - Everything is Everything (September)
- Calexico - Red Blooms (Opening for Arcade Fire)
- Matt & Kim - Silver Tiles (September)
Weeeeee! It is a busy few months musically.
I am already exhausted and it hasn’t even begun yet!
Turn on portable electronic device. Set it to Shuffle all songs. Record the first 15 songs that show up. Only skip if there is a repeated artist. No shame here. This is a safe space for all of your musical secrets to be revealed……

So I just startED on Blalock’s Indie/Rock Playlist. I had acquired many songs from this list in the past. This time I just found the whole thing. It is pretty good. But not as if I need more artists in my common rotation (another good band you should check out)……
Funnily enough, only one song from the Playlist made it onto this little jam… Japanther. Haven’t really listened to it, so am somewhat ambivalent at the moment.
Summer’s coming. Just got back from a free mini-concert in Yaletown. Mumford and Son’s played a few songs out the front of a restaurant. Although I was staring at the back of their heads for the whole show….. it was pretty fucking dope. Still very sad I am not going to see them tonite. But I do have Edward Sharpe tomorrow. If you follow me on the Twitter then you know that I am worried about being around that many happy people. It is not in my nature.
XO
In the past week I really discovered Blip…… Sweet baby Jesus help me. So now I have another thing to be obsessed with.
Not sure if it will impact this wee playlist, but let’s give it a shot okay? The game hasn’t changed. Shuffle all your I-pod and write the first 15 songs….. only skip if an artist repeats. If you skip, you will have very bad sex for at least a year. Trust me, I learnt the hard way….

Check out the new Band of Horses album…… it is fan-flipping-tastic. Seriously.
I just put DMB back on my I-pod as I have been Dave-less for a few months. I missed him. In spite of all my new musical dalliances, I will always and forever love Dave. Seeing them at Madison Square Garden in New York a few years ago is seriously one of the most amazing musical nights I have ever had.
In honour of Music Monday on the Twitter, time for another edition….
You know the rules: Shuffle all, no cheating (baby Jesus knows if you cheat and s/he will not be happy), only skip if an artist repeats..

I will defend the K-Stew - Dakota song until I die. It is fucking awesome. So listen to it before you judge. So good… in a super cheesy way. I can only imagine how many takes it took them in the studio to get through it. So much cheese….
Seeing Freelance Whales on Friday @ The Commodore. Very excited.
PS: if you were not aware….. music is my boyfriend.
Easy fun game for you. Whatever you listen to your music on…… shuffle all. Write down the first 15 tunes that come up. Do not cheat. This is a safe place for you. Give me your shameful musical secrets ;0. Skip ONLY if there is a repeat in artists.
Here we go….

Oh my Kate Nash. If you haven’t heard her new album - I highly recommend it. Fricking fantastic. Honestly so good.
Also a single tear for Frightened Rabbit. I was super excited to see them at Coachella. Then that pesky volcano that no one knows how to pronounce impeded their flight to the US. I was very very very sad. Their show in Vancity is super beyond sold out. Boo Hiss. A single tear I say.
